Google and Dixons Retail open Chrome Zone pop-up shop exclusively in flagship Currys and PC World London store

Shoppers will have the chance to try out Chromebooks for themselves in a uniquely 'Googley' setting

LONDON (September 30, 2011) – The Currys and PC World superstore, on London's Tottenham Court Road, will be the first place in the UK where customers can try before they buy the Samsung Chromebook, as Google makes its first foray in to the world of physical retail with a Google-branded 'shop-within- shop'.

Exclusive to Currys and PC World, the Chrome Zone will allow shoppers to get hands-on time with Chromebooks, a new range of notebook computers designed for people who live on the web. The Samsung Chromebook Series 5 features a comfortable full-sized keyboard, large screen and a clickable trackpad. It's also lightweight, boasts all-day battery life, and thanks to its built-in ability to connect to Wi-Fi and 3G, the Chromebook is ideal for getting online, wherever you are.

Specially trained Chromebook experts will be on hand to offer guidance and advice to shoppers, and to show them the benefits of these notebook computers, which have been optimised for the web and come without all the headaches of ordinary computers. Unlike a traditional PC, Chromebooks get better over time with automatic software updates.

"We've put a great deal of thought in to the design of this Chrome Zone," says Arvind Desikan, head of consumer marketing for Google in the UK and Ireland.

"Chromebooks are the perfect laptops for people who live on the web, and offer a faster, safer and more secure online experience, without all the time-consuming and confusing maintenance required by typical computers."

Mark Slater, category director at Dixons Retail, says: "Initial customer response to the launch of Samsung's Chromebook has been excellent and we are expecting a lot of customer interest and excitement now it is in-store.

"It's the most revolutionary laptop on the market and as the leading electrical retailer in the UK we are thrilled that our flagship store has UK exclusivity to showcase this new technology to our customers. We have dedicated staff who have been specifically trained in using the Chromebook to demonstrate all its unique benefits and features to customers."
