Business Ethics

We have a Global Ethical Purchasing Policy designed to ensure that we buy our own brand products from factories that demonstrate a measurable commitment to social and ethical standards.  This social and ethical standards policy runs parallel to our quality assurance inspections that monitor the quality and safety of electrical products sold through our stores.

We buy from over 100 suppliers throughout Asia and audits these against criteria which, for example, exclude child labour, guarantee acceptable working hours and a safe and healthy workplace.

Our policies cover all suppliers including our non-merchandise suppliers. Our own-brand suppliers have to sign a detailed agreement which covers all aspects of ethical sourcing before they are approved. They are independently audited at least once a year. We take an industry leading position in demanding corrective action plans should we find any discrepancies and we constantly update our risk monitors.

Key issues

  • Ensure that our suppliers meet the ethical standards specified in our ethical sourcing policies
  • Ensure that we are fully compliant with all relevant legislation in the countries we trade in
  • Provide customers with relevant and accurate product information so that they can make informed choices
  • Work with our suppliers so that they are compliant to new company and Government requirements
  • Provide our customers with safe, functional and enjoyable technology.

Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC)

As an Applicant Member of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), Dixons Retail supports the vision of the EICC, to create better social, economic and environmental outcomes for all those involved in the electronics supply chains. This includes increased efficiency and productivity for customers and suppliers, improved conditions for workers, economic development and a cleaner environment for local communities.

Dixons Retail also supports the goals of the EICC, to deliver these benefits through a shared approach in implementing the EICC Code of Conduct. This will enable the maximum focus to be given to creating positive social and environmental change and continuous supply chain improvement. The Group will progressively work to align its own operations with the EICC Code as well as to encourage its first-tier suppliers to do the same.
